Rituals, Rites of Passage and Pastoral Care

Rituals and Rites of Passage

Rites of passage are the rituals and ceremonies we create to mark life's important transitions.  At UUCAV we have rituals for the rites of passage big and small.  Our child dedications, weddings, and funerals and memorials are usually performed by our minister (or intern minister when we have one).  These rites of passage are free for members as a priviledge of membership, and available to other people for a service fee for the religious professional along with rental of the building.  If you're interested in talking to our minister about a rite of passage, contact her at minister@uucav.org, or book an appointment on her calendly

Smaller rites of passage occur throughout the year, often as part of our worship service.  One of our favorite examples is "Bridging" -- the moment where we recognize seniors in high school leaving bridging to young adulthood.  Another ritual that might be considered a rite of passage for some is our annual Pride blessing, where we bless people in their gender identities and sexualities.  Sometimes people newly coming out also have a rite of passage created specially for them.  If you have a life transition that you are thinking about honoring in some sort of ritual way, again contact our minister at the links above.

Pastoral Care

"Pastoral Care" means how we connect to and support and care for one another in the church community.  Here at UUCAV we have several levels of Pastoral Care: Joys and Sorrows, Caring Connections, Lay Ministers, and our Minister.  For more about how we care for one another at FPC, see our Pastoral Care page.  Our minister and Lay Minsiters can all be reached by emailing caring@uucav.org.
