Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

This year we’re taking several looks back into Unitarian Universalist history.  This week we’ll look at our religious response to the civil rights movement, and what it tells us for today.

What if to "side with love" meant making bold, faith-full choices? What if it were even a little bit scary? This worship service, created by the UUA for congregations to share, brings together worship leaders and musicians from across the country to offer hopeful, moving, challenging reminders about what we, as Unitarian Universalists, are called to do, and BE, in the world.

We talk in Unitarian Universalism a lot about “building beloved community,” but what does “beloved community” mean to us?  What does it mean to be a beloved community?  We’ll explore the idea on this Sunday

Matt Meyer, Guest Speaker

As people of faith we’re called to work together to create the world as it might be, but living the change we wish to see can bring us through discomfort and troubled water. In the midst of a status quo that can push us down, join us this Sunday for a service of rhythm, song, and a challenge to live our values and lift each other up.

Matt Meyer is musician, worship leader, and community organizer, as well as a lifelong Unitarian Universalist. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2004, where he studied hand drumming and world music. During that time, he also studied abroad in Cuba, Ghana, and Central America. Since then, Matt has led music and worship for hundreds of services in congregations all over the country, as well as at numerous UU conferences and General Assemblies, and has performed with Ysaye Barnwell (of Sweet Honey in the Rock), Pete Seeger, Emma’s Revolution, Peter Mayer, Jim Scott, Nick Page, The Halalisa Singers, Samba Tremeterra, and Bloco de Afrobrazil..  His website is www.RhythmRevelations.com

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum
Our minister has this week off for vacation (as does our staff), but she’s kindly sharing a sermon by video!  As we face the new year with 2020 behind us, Rev. Cindy will share an updated version of her sermon from the 2020 joint summer service, “Hope Facing Future.”  On the threshold of a new year, she’ll examine the year behind us, the future ahead of us, and the role of hope, that thing with feathers.

Kwanzaa Service at the Unitarian Society of Hartford

Dianne Daniels, USH Intern Minister

Just as other congregations have joined us at FPC for worship in October and November, now it's our time to let another congregation host us!  We'll be joining the Unitarian Society of Hartford where we'll join with three additional Connecticut churches in a worship service led by USH's intern minister, Dianne Daniels, who celebrates Kwanzaa.

5:00PM

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

Our zoom room has more space than our sanctuary, so we can all be together for one Christmas Eve service.  Where we usually have one pageant service and one service packed full of choir music, this service will feature elements from both -- we'll tell the Christmas story using images and words, and we'll have lots of music to enjoy.  The whole service is designed to be intergenerational, but we will feature a point mid-way through where the service will become more solemn and serious, and so young children may choose to engage in other activities at this point, being called back in if they want to experience the candle lighting. Bring your candle to the service.
