Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

In Margery Williams’ The Velveteen Rabbit, the Skin Horse says, "Real isn't how you are made…It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real." We’ll celebrate the ways we become real in the spirit of Easter this year. And, as is the tradition at FPC, we’ll close our service with a group singing of the “Hallelujah Chorus” and have an egg hunt for the children following the service!

Masks are required in the sanctuary, with the exception of being optional for speakers, soloists, and in the balcony.

Our theme for the month of April is “Resistance” and as March 31st is Transgender Day of Visibility, we’ll begin by sharing our resistance to the anti-trans legislations sweeping the country. We’ll have trans ribbons available to put on your nametag at the service and in coffee hour, thanks to one of our members!

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

This is the second of Rev. Cindy’s “auction sermon” topics for this year, and it’s a great one!  This service will explore the power that stories have over us to change and shape what is perceived as true, and by example dive into the case of beer, where women dominated beer-making until they were accused as witches for doing so. Let’s raise a glass to Women’s History Month!

Masks are required in the sanctuary, with the exception of being optional for speakers, soloists, and in the balcony.

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

Our vespers series this year will be a spiritual service focused on how we refresh, rejuvenate, build community, and draw spiritual support for the work of justice. As March is Women’s History month, we’ll draw special connections honoring women and nonbinary voices, and how important that is as we continue to engage in the work towards equity for all. Come join us for a peaceful service between our peace vigil and choir rehearsal times on the fourth Thursday of the month.

Masks are required in the Community Room, with the exception of being optional for speakers.

Intergenerational Service

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

Join us for an intergenerational, artistic, and interactive service celebrating art and artists! We invite you to bring a piece of art you’ve created for an “art parade.” And if you haven’t seen our art gallery this weekend, it’ll be open during “coffee hour” after the service in Fellowship Hall!

Masks are required in the sanctuary, with the exception of being optional for speakers, soloists, and in the balcony.

 Rev. Megan Lynes, guest minister

Whether in personal relationships or congregational life we are in a constant dynamic dance of communication. So often we hold back important parts of ourselves to feel safe. At other times we initiate the dance, but step on toes. What relationships in your life need tweaking? What would that look like? Together we’ll heighten our awareness of our own roles and expectations within personal relationships and in community life.

Rev. Megan Lynes grew up UU in the Boston area, and was ordained in 2008 by the congregation of Canton MA, where she did her student ministry. Megan’s ministry has included serving as a chaplain at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, nine years as the Parish Minister of the First Parish in Bedford, MA, and two years as the Minister of Faith Formation at the First Church in Sterling, MA. She took a break during the pandemic to stay home with her 3-year-old son full time, and is now serving another contract year with the First Parish in Bedford. Megan is a single mom by choice and lives in Stow with her best friend, her son Jesse, two cats, and six chickens.

Brené Brown said, “Vulnerability is not knowing victory or defeat; it’s understanding the necessity of both; it’s engaging. It’s being all in.”  This sermon will explore both the difficulties and benefits of being vulnerable and open.

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

Rev. Cindy is once again challenged by a great “auction sermon” topic! This year, one of two auction sermons is on decolonization, and how “white saviorism” is demonstrated in literature and film from early films all the way through to The Help and Avatar. We’ll look at popular entertainment, but then all the way into our stories within our own faith. How does knowing this change how we work towards decolonization?

Masks are required in the sanctuary, with the exception of being optional for speakers, soloists, and in the balcony.
